About This Project
Slattery Conservation Architects were appointed by the Office of Public Works (OPW) as Lead Conservation Architects for restoration works to the Arch at Dublin Castle. Located on the north side of the Upper Castle Yard, the gate is constructed in cut granite, capped with curved pediments and surmounted by a lead statue by sculptor Van Nost.
The Practice led the conservation approach and the specification of repairs to safeguard the historic fabric and address deterioration. Works included comprehensive conservation of the stone and brickwork, replacement of defective leadwork to the upper level including the broken pediment and projecting elements, and repairs to associated historic joinery and metalwork. This encompassed repairs to the iron gates, restoration of timber doors, and repairs to cast-iron rainwater goods.
